The Great Pumpkin Float!

We collected so many pumpkins yesterday, and we have many activities planned with them. Today, with our Reading Buddies, we turned into scientists and completed an experiment to see if pumpkins float. First, the students predicted whether the pumpkins woud sink or float, and then we put each pumpkin into the water. Many students began to see that all of the pumpkins were floating and changed their intitial predictions. Lastly, we put a pebble into the water. The class concluded that the material that something is made of affects whether or not it will sink or float, and they determined that one of the factors of the pumpkins floating is the hollowness of the pumpkin.
