...And it's the last day of May! Wow, the last three months has flown by, and we have 3 days of school left until your children are first-graders! I hope you saw the invitations for our slideshow on Thursday, June 2 at 10:25 and 1:50. You do not have to attend both of them (it will be the same show), nor do you have to attend at all, but I wanted to give you the opportunity to see pictures of our time together. It will be amazing to see how much they have grown! If you attend the 10:25 showing, you are welcome to stay for lunch as well. If the weather is nice, the students will be picnicking outside!

Also, please be sure to bring the lunch accounts current and wrap up any business you may have with the school. If you have a kindergartner or know someone who does for next year, please register or encourage them to register as soon as possible. We will have a better idea of numbers for next year if you do!

Week of May 23-27

Whew, what a week! It has been a busy one filled with the ZooMontana field trip, assessments for report cards, and all that rain! Next week wil be very busy as well as we begin wrapping up the year and sending school supplies home. Be prepared for extra supplies and goodies from the year to be in the backpacks.

Next Thursday, the second to last day of school, we will be presenting our class's end of the year slideshow. I hope you are available during one of the times to join us as we see a review of the kindergarten year in pictures! Please plan to stay about 15-20 minutes. The first show will be at 10:25 (before lunch) and the second show will be 1:50 (right before we get ready to go home).

Rainy, Rainy Friday, May 20

This time of year certainly brings about many behaviors, both positive and negative! With the changes in weather, longer days, and busy Spring schedules, the children can have difficulties managing themselves. Consistencies in routines (as much as possible) and expectations will help your child as the end of the school year progresses. Please let me know about any of your child's anxieties as necessary!

In your child's folder today, you will find the permission slip for the zoo. With the zoo losing it's accreditation, we were unsure whether the trip would work! But, it sounds like the zoo will be open, and there will be animals! I am sorry for the short notice about the permission slip and money, but it will be due on Monday. It will cost only $1.oo for admittance as we had a donation to the Kindergarten class. What a treat!

Field Day was a Success!

Thankfully, the rain subsided enough for the kids to have Field Day! They played so many games, and I am sure you will hear wonderful stories about the day.

Monday and Tuesday, May 16-17

Well...we are hoping for rain-free weather for our Field Day on Thursday. We will cancel the games if it is actively raining, and we will not know for sure until Thursday morning. Please send your children dressed for Field Day anyway in hopes that we can play outside!

Also, you probably noticed on the the calendars that the students brought home that we planned one more field trip to ZooMontana for next Thursday, May 26. We are not sure how that will be affected with the news of the zoo losing its accreditation, but after we do some research, I will let you know what our plans are!

Morning Meetings: Letter Sounds song, exercise Zumba, discuss the proper behavior for getting ready to go home and make plans to implement those behaviors (in kindergarten speak, of course)

The Rest of the Week...

This time of year gets so busy! I am posting lists of things we have done during the last 3 days, and there was a lot!

Morning Meetings: learning letter sound songs, shape songs
Reading/Writing: Alliteration (same sounds used multiple times in a series of words: Silly Sam the Snake slithered softly.) and Idioms (means something other than a literal translation: (a student remembered this one!) You are driving me up a wall!), reading Zebra and the Bug, Magic School Bus Explores the Senses
Math: Ways to Make Numbers (4-10), using the terms "addends" (numbers you add together) and "sum" (the whole amount)
Science: Answering the question: Can we put an insect in a sealed container and create an environment in which it will survive? We are exploring the idea by creating a terrarium with rocks, soil, living plants, and insects inside a sealed soda bottle. (With our Reading Buddies)
Centers and making habitats for our paper frogs from our Field Trip
Planting plants in our license plate containers to decorate the front entrance of our school.
